Monday and Tuesday of this week my mom took me down to Turkey Run in Indiana for an overnight... WOW, so freaking cool for only a 5 hour drive!!! (we notoriously have no fun geology around here, darn glacial tills) I was very happy exploring the canyons! HOWEVER I was reduced to tears when I got home and saw that every freaking one of my pics SUCKED ROCKS because I was too lazy to haul my tripod along. The only one that's even close to sharp is the one I shot using a fallen log and the self timer.
So now I totally need to go back. And I'm seriously gonna try and convince Naarah and Joel to go with, because it would be SO darn fun exploring with my photo geek friends.
And a freaking tripod. You'd think after the Roaring Fork pics last year I'd have bloody well LEARNED but noooooooo.
I fail as a photo geek. *sobs*
But anyway. Con this weekend. Playing in Chicago with my best friends. Spending all my souvenir money on more crocheted dolls from Vox. Counting the former MGC entries in the art show and then blowing off the con for the rest of the weekend in favor of being touristy.

It's much easier to carry along a monopod compared to a tripod. It's quicker to set up and in total it's a perfect means to fight that kind of laziness (just make sure to get one with a good foot or else it won't effectively stabilize anything).
Another great tool is the Joby GorillaPOD. Wherever you have a pole, a small tree, a traffic sign, a park bench or whatever, you will have a tripod. It's small, lightweight and the coolest gimmick for photography that I've seen in years.
Well worth the buy!
